Don't even try to warn me about the cost of living there....I just moved to Denver from Aspen, Colorado so I am used to the insane costs.
I should be able to drive my Vespa most places but if not is the public transit o.k.?
Any other advice you can give me would be really great and if you know of anyone looking to rent a room or give me a job it would be cool too! (Don't worry I am searching Craig's List too!)

Ill be honest with you--the whole Island is rated by the US government as a "labor surplus area" which means high unemployment. But don't let me dampen your enthusiasm and sense of adventure. Rentals are not cheap and the cost of living is high even by your standards. You'll need to live possibly by the work areas--the North Shore is more retail or tourist oriented and seasonal. Other area is the west side in the Poipu area, but I would look nearer to the Lihue area where the bulk of business services and local government is located. There is public trans available through the Kauai Bus running fixed bus routes from Hanalei to Kekaha (East to West) daily except Sundays and Holidays, 5:15 am to 7:15 pm weekdays, 7:15am to 3:15 pm Saturdays. Cost is $1.50 for adults and a monthly pass is $15.00.
Your vespa is fine for getting around until it rains!
