Free Things to Do in Orlando, Florida
Going on holiday anywhere, can be a very costly exercise, however, research before you go will prepare you, and you will have a much better holiday. Costs such transportation, your Hotel, which restaurant you will use, and what entertainment you are looking for all have a bearing on your holiday budget.
Orlando, can be expensive but for the budget minded family there are some excellent free attractions.
Down Town Disney, is very interesting and free! Here you have the biggest Disney store in the world; there are other fun places to see like the rainforest cafe. To get there, jump on a boat from Disney Port Orleans resort, travel down the Sasagoula River passing trees and walkways, surrounding the Disney property. The boat from Down Town Disney to Port Orleans takes about of 30 minutes and is free to ride. Port Orleans, formerly Dixie landing has two distinct areas, the riverside and the French quarter, it is a beautiful resort, with quaint replica hotels, its well worth a visit!
The old town in Kissimmee is only 10 minutes from Walt Disney World, and offers a lot of free things to see. There are many different stores and shops here, rides for children including, bumper cars, and go carts, and they have thrill rides for the more adventurous. Parking is free. It's nice to walk around or to sit quietly and admire the views. Saturday nights, provide entertainment in the form of a cruise by, where classic vehicles parade around the streets.
Winter Park is just north of down town Orlando, Winter-park was founded as a resort destination by wealthy New England industrialists before the turn of the 20th century. Many structures are more than 100 years old. The scenic Olde Winter Park area is punctuated by small, winding brick streets, and a canopy of old Southern Live Oak and Camphor trees, draped with Spanish moss. It is a beautiful place to go to, very relaxing.
If your Hotel is close to Walt Disney World, you can still enjoy the Disney facilities for you and your family, for free. Park at any of the Disney hotel, look for the bus stop, and use Free Disney transport to take yourself and family to the Disney Theme parks. The Disney themed hotels like the Pop Century, All Star Movie, All Star Sport, are interesting to look at, they have high giant toys at the ends of their buildings. Take the monorail to and from the Disney's Grand Floridian Hotel, and Wilderness Lodge Hotels. Lynn and I have found these hotels to be of great interest, depending on which season you go to Disney, they put on unique interesting decoration displays, I must admit the Grand Floridian Christmas display is exquisite!
The town of Celebration is right next to the old town, it is a unique experience. Come December it's time for the "Now Snowing" event at the festively decorated Town Center. Featuring live entertainment, carolers, horse drown carriage rides and hourly "snowfall" each evening, the town is transformed into a Winter Wonderland.
Staying near to Universal Studios Orlando, there's plenty to do here and they are free. Universal City Walk, free to walk around, and parking is free after 6pm. There are plenty of stores and shops to browse, an ideal pass time for an hour or so. Visit the Hard Rock Hotel made famous by the many rock stars that have stayed there. The Portofino Hotel is just what you need for a drink with friends. They are all well designed and decorated, just what you need for a little relaxation. Universal Studios has a free boat service, use it to take you from City Walk to the Hotels.
The Gaylord Palms Hotel is a great place to visit. They have an interesting event where artists create magnificent ice sculptures, Ice Bears, Foxes etc are created out of 2 million pounds of ice, if you take a camcorder or camera make sure you allow it to warm up, ice creates fog on your lenses.. Sun-drenched and spectacular Gaylord-Palms-Resort.. And Convention Center brings excitement to life through world-class restaurants, dynamic on-site recreation, and breathtakingly beautiful gardens under glass.
Shopping in Orlando is an attraction in itself, the malls are all full of up to date technology, clothes, and sweets everything. You can choose from the Mall at Millennia, the Florida Mall, and there's the Fashion Square Mall. They are free to walk around and window shop.
The city draws thousands of visitors to annual festivals including the Bach Festival, the nationally ranked Sidewalk Art Festival, and the Winter Park Concours d'Elegance.
There are a lot of state parks in the Orlando, Florida. Altamonte Springs has Birthday World; it's a 22,000sq ft indoor carnival with 5 rides, bounces, toddler zone, huge arcade, glow golf and great food. Open to the public as well as parties 7 days a week. Walk in and play everyday! Crane birds roost here, the area has a relaxing effect, helped by the music playing in the background

What are some cheap hotels to stay at near disney world in orlando florida?
It would be nice if there was a bus that went straight to disney. It would be nice if it had some transportation to the ocean or maybe just stay at two different hotels. I'm going in April it would be nice if it was under $500 for two people. Thank you!
Stay at a Disney value resort. They are around the same price range as a LaQuinta and they include money saving perks such as that bus to the parks that you are wanting. You won't be able to find a hotel that buses to the ocean. Orlando isn't close enough.
